General information
Amra contains a potent ingredient called perindopril erbumine. It belongs to the class of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. This medication is taken alone or it can be combined with thiazide diuretics that help the body to get rid of excess water. Another active ingredient is a diuretic indapamide. Combination of the ingredients strengthens their effect. Amra improves the flow of blood through the circulatory system. It is the first line medication used in the treatment of high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. It also can be applied to treat diabetic nephropathy, renal disease, systemic sclerosis, coronary artery disease, left ventricular hypertrophy. It works via preventing an angiotensin I from converting into a more potent form that increases salt and water retention in your body.
Directions
You need to consult a doctor regarding the appropriate dosage intake. Do not give up taking the medicine unless it is permitted by your doctor. Adults should take 1 tab of Amra once a day as a single dose in mornings. Aged patients and those with renal insufficiency should start from minimal dose and take one dose of Amra or one half of Amra Forte tablet with constant control of with constant monitoring of creatinine and potassium in blood.
Precautions
Before taking you must immediately consult your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to be pregnant as it may cause severe harm to the unborn child. To make sure you can safely take Amra you must also inform your doctor if you have cardiac insufficiency, suffered from strokes, liver/kidney diseases, asthma, glaucoma, low or high level of potassium, lupus, gout, diabetes, scleroderma. Follow your doctor's instructions about the type and amount of liquids you should drink.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients that are pregnant or breastfeeding or in case the anamnesis includes hypersensitivity to Amra or any other ACE inhibitors such as captopril and lisinopril; a history of allergic reactions such as swelling of the face/lips/tongue/throat; lupus, scleroderma; kidney or liver diseases; dehydration; mineral misbalance that involves high potassium or low sodium levels in the blood. - angioedema in history (incl. in patients receiving ACE inhibitors ); - hypokalemia ; severe renal impairment ( creatinine clearance less than 30 mL / min); - severe hepatic impairment (incl. encephalopathy ); - simultaneous intake of drugs prolonging QT interval; pregnancy, breastfeeding, hypersensitivity to the drug.
Possible side effect
In case you suffer from allergy that involves hives, face swelling, breathe diminishing, muscle pain, nausea or emesis, morbidity, urine color changing, high fever, chest pain, palpitations, a feeling of extreme dizziness or fainting you need to immediately notify your health care practitioner. There can be less serious side effects that are transient and may involve headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, weakness, numbness, tingling in the hands, feet, arms, or leg, digestive upsets, itching, rash, hyperhidrosis. If any of these symptoms persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly.
Drug interactions
Amra is able to interact with following medicines: with a class of potassium supplements such as K-Dur, Klor-Con; with salt substitutes that contain potassium; with a group of water pills (diuretics) such as triamterene (Dyrenium, Maxzide, Dyazide), spironolactone (Aldactone), or amiloride (Midamor), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, HydroDiuril, others); lithium (Lithobid, Eskalith, others); digoxin (Lanoxin); indomethacin (Indocin); with a class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; medications used to affect the bone marrow; gold injections; heparin; products that may increase your potassium level; pseudoephedrine; trimethoprim-containing medications. In case you are already taking one of these medications, you need to adjust Amra dosage schedule with your health care practitioner. Please, check with your doctor or pharmacist a list of other medications and food supplements you are allowed to take consentaneously with this product.
Missed dose
In case you have missed to take a dose of the medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If you are already supposed to take your next dose, do not take the dose you forgot and keep your ordinary dosage schedule. Avoid compensating a missed dose by taking an extra one. If you have missed to take a few doses in succession, you should immediately consult your doctor about follow-up actions.
Overdose
If you suspect you have used too much of this medication, seek emergency medical attention right away. You must do this even if symptoms of discomfort or poisoning haven’t been indicated at once. You may need urgent medical attention. Most regular symptoms of overdose involve dizziness, fainting, lassitude, excessive low blood pressure.
Storage
It is recommended to store this medication away from sources of moisture and heat, and in a safe place, far from reach of children and pets. Store it at room temperature of 15-30 degrees C (59-86 F). Shelf life is two years. Don’t take after expiration date.
