General information
Anaspan is a blocker of M-cholinergic receptors. It has antispasmodic effect on smooth muscles of internal organs (gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, urinary tract), reduces secretion of digestive glands. Hyoscine butylbromide does not penetrate the blood-brain barrier, thus anticholinergic effect on the central nervous system is absent. Anaspan is used to treat spasms of the gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, urinary tract (renal colic, biliary colic, intestinal colic, cholecystitis, pilorospazm ); spastic biliary dyskinesia and gallbladder, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer in acute phase (comprising combination therapy) , algomenorrhea.
Directions
Take Anaspan exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Adults should take 1-2 tablets four times a day. Children older than 6 years take 1 tablet three times a day. Duration of treatment is determined individually by your doctor.
Precautions
Before taking Anaspan you should talk with your doctor if you have intestinal obstruction , obstruction of the urinary tract (including benign prostatic hyperplasia ), the propensity to tachyarrhythmia (including atrial fibrillation). It is not recommended to drive a vehicle and operate mechanisms which require concentration of attention and velocity of reaction in the period of treatment. Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Limit alcohol intake, as it may intensify drug side effects.
Contraindications
You should not take Anaspan if you have hypersensitivity to hyoscine butylbromide, glucose-galactose malabsorption problems, suffer with closed-angle glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, adenoma of prostate, pyloric stenosis, tachyarrhythmia, megacolon, mechanical intestinal obstruction, acute pulmonary edema, pronounced cerebral arteriosclerosis, tachycardia, thyrotoxicosis.
Possible side effect
Get emergency medical help if you have nausea, fatigue, sore throat, dizziness, dry mouth , dry skin, tachycardia , drowsiness, disturbance of accommodation. In some cases side effects can include urinary retention, in rare cases skin rash or difficulty with breathing can occur. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor.
Drug interactions
Tell your doctor about all other medications you use. Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor. Anaspan enhances anticholinergic effects of tricyclic antidepressants, antihistamines , quinidine, amantadine and disopyramide. Simultaneous administration of Anaspan and dopamine antagonists leads to weakening of effect of both drugs on the gastrointestinal tract. Anaspan may potentiate tachycardia caused by beta-adrenergic agents.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Don't take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at once. Cases of overdose have not been described, so the following symptoms and recommendations are theoretical. If you feel such symptoms as: urinary retention, dry mouth, flushing, tachycardia, inhibition of gastrointestinal motility, transient visual disturbances.
Storage
Store the medicine at room temperature between 59-77 degrees F (15-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in bathroom. Keep all drugs away from reach of children and pets. Shelf life is 3 years. The drug should not be used after the expiration date.
